Stockton Rehabilitation Hospital is the first freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in San Joaquin County, California — a market of roughly 750,000 people that had no dedicated facility of its kind.
The 63,000-square-foot hospital was delivered in the first quarter of 2023 on the University Park master-planned healthcare and education campus, directly across the street from Dignity Health’s St. Joseph’s Medical Center. It offers 50 inpatient beds alongside comprehensive outpatient programs and dialysis services, and is operated by Ernest Health.
It was designed by Davis Stokes Collaborative and built by Layton Construction under California’s OSHPD 1 standard — the same seismic and structural code required of general acute-care hospitals in the state. As Craig puts it: if we’re not dealing with hurricanes, we’re planning for earthquakes.
